What is IPL?

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light, also known as IPL.

How Does It Work?

Intense Pulsed Light technology (IPL), takes advantage of powerful light pulses to destroy unwanted hair follicles. Light energy from the IPL system is absorbed by the melanin in the hair, which then turns to heat, destroying the hair follicles.

How Long Does It Take To See Results?

Most people begin to notice visible results in just 3 weeks, with complete results within 12 weeks.

How Often Do I Need To Use It?

We recommend using your handset once a week for the first 12 weeks. After this period use your handset once a month, for 3 months or until satisfied.

To maintain smooth hairless skin, We recommend using your handset once every 2 to 3 months, or as needed. There is no need to use it more than once a week, as IPL is only effective during the hair growth phase.

Which Areas Of My Body Can I Use It On?

You can use your handset on your entire body, including your Brazilian/Bikini and face (just be sure to not get too close to your eyes).

Does The YaySkinCo™ Pro IPL Handset Work On All Hair Colors?

IPL technology relies on melanin in the hair to absorb the light energy, and therefore IPL may not be as effective on very light blonde, light red, or light grey colored hair. However, most moderate tones of light colored hair are fine.

Is The YaySkinCo™ Pro IPL Handset Safe For All Skin Tones?

IPL technology is suitable for all but the darkest skin tones. This is because the light energy may be more attracted to the pigments in the skin rather than the melanin in the hair. Please use the skin tone chart below to determine whether or not IPL is suitable for you.

Are The Results From IPL Permanent?

You need to be cautious anytime someone claims their device will give you "permanent results" as this is not true. All types of IPL & laser hair removal require some maintenance, or eventually the hair will start growing back. After completing your initial 12 once a week sessions with our handset you will only have to use your handset once every 3 months to maintain smooth, hairless skin.

How Do The Modes Work?

Our Pro handset comes with 3 modes you can use.

Manual Mode: The handset will flash as you press the trigger button.

Glide Mode: The handset will flash automatically (when ready), while you hold down the trigger button continuously.

Auto Mode: Where the handset will flash on its own (when ready), without you pressing any buttons.

IPL treatment is safe when used on hormonal hair growth, and has proven to be quite effective. Most of our customers with PCOS have stated our handset makes the hormonal hair regrowth more manageable as it doesn’t regrow as quickly. It also helps with minimizing razor bumps as you will not need to shave it as often.

Is IPL Safe For People With Epilepsy?

IPL will not be suitable for you if you have epilepsy.

Is The YaySkinCo™ Pro IPL Handset Safe For People Who Are Pregnant Or Breastfeeding?

Although there is no evidence suggesting that IPL technology has negative health effects on people who are pregnant or breastfeeding, we still don’t recommend using our handset as a safety precaution.

Is It Safe To Use The Handset Over Freckles Or Moles?

You should not use the handset over very dark freckles or moles, however light freckles & moles are fine.

Is It Safe To Use The Handset Over Tattoos?

You should not use the handset over tattoos. The IPL light energy will be more attracted to the pigments in the ink, rather than the melanin in the hair which can cause a reaction in the skin and blister. You should always go around your tattoos.

Should I Shave Before Using The YaySkinCo™ Pro IPL Handset?

Yes, you should always shave the target areas before using your handset. We recommend a close to skin shave as that always provides the best results. The goal is for the IPL light energy to reach the hair follicle as quickly & easily as possible. Also, the hair follicle does need to be intact for IPL to be effective. This means no waxing, plucking, threading, etc.

Can I Use Other Hair Removal Methods Between Treatments?

You should only shave as needed between treatments. You should never wax, pluck, thread, or epilate as these hair removal methods remove the entire follicle, which is what absorbs the IPL light energy during the treatment.

Can I Use My Handset Before Or After Sun Tanning?

No. After intentionally sun tanning, You will need to wait at least 2 weeks to ensure your skin has healed to a healthy state and is not sun damaged. If you believe you are sunburnt, do not use your handset until your skin heals as you may experience an adverse reaction.

Can I Use My Handset With A Fake Tan?

No. You will need to remove and exfoliate all fake tan from your skin before using your handset.

Can I Share My Handset With Someone else?

Yes. However, you should always clean your handset thoroughly after doing so.

Should I Wear Eye Protection?

No, eye protection is not required when using our handset. The YaySkinCo™ Pro IPL Handset comes standard with a built-in Intelligent Contact Safety Sensor and will not flash unless the entire IPL window is pressed against your skin. However, you should never try to look directly into the light as it flashes.

How Can I Clean My Handset?

We recommend you clean your handset after each use. Alcohol wipes are suitable, or any antibacterial wipe to clean the handset and the IPL light window. First, confirm your handset is powered off, and not plugged in before cleaning it. You should always store the handset in a cool, dry place after use or cleaning.

Is It Normal For The IPL Light Window To Have A Slight Black Tint After Usage?

Yes. In some instances this happens. It is completely normal for a slight black tint to occur on/around the IPL light window. This will not affect the safety, effectiveness or the results of your handset. It is simply due to heat being involved.

Is It Normal To Smell A Slight Burning Smell?

Yes, this is completely normal and nothing to worry about. This usually happens when some hairs have not been shaved close enough to the skin before treatment. Please ensure that you have prepped the skin correctly, and that the skin is completely shaved before starting your session.
